James Paul Gee - University of Wisconsin-Madison. Studies video games and their cognitive, social, and political implications for literacy and schooling. Has written on learning and literacy in video and computer games.

Marc Prensky - author of Digital Game Based Learning and over 50 software games for learning.

Bruce Sterling Woodcock - Games consultant, researcher, and analyst, and currently runs MMOGCHART.COM, a web site dedicated to tracking Massively Multiplayer Online Games. His subscription data is now frequently used as a standard of reference in the gaming industry, media, and financial sectors.

Henry Jenkins - MIT. Peter de Florez Professor of Humanities and Co-Director of the MIT Comparative Media Studies program with William Uricchio. Studied the effects of audience participation in media culture and its effects.

Richard Bartle - One of the pioneers of Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs) and expert on virtual worlds research.

Nicholas Yee - Stanford University - studied demographics of MMORPGs, especially in EverQuest.

Constance Steinkuehler - University of Wisconsin- Madison. Studies MMOGs as naturally occurring online learning environments from a literacy and cognitive perspective.

Kurt Squire - University of Wisconsin-Madison. Designed various game-based learning environments including a virtual environment to teach the American Revolution.

Magy Seif El-Nasr - Penn State University - Studies interactive narrative and believability.
